August 18,1997 During your July 20-24,1998 inspection at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, you
' reviewed the corrective actions delineated in the referenced letter. The referenced letter provided our response to a Notice of Violation (96019-02) involving the control of radioactive material.
You also reviewed portions of the ongoing activities and corrective action initiatives regarding the control of radioactive material. As you are aware, SCE continues to assess the radioactive material control program and develop recommendations, as appropnate.

Individual evaluations were initiated for events 1,2,3, and 4. In Febniary of 1997, an ER3 crent evaluation was generated for the combination of events. In August of 1997, the ER3 was superceded by an ER2. based on the resised Notice of Violation from the NRC (July 18,1997).

Date is initial program revision availability. Program is ongoing.

Initially esents were evaluated individually and then combined into a single event trend report for evaluation.

The escut was discovered on May 15,1997. The event investigation could identif) only the time span ofin which the actual event occurred ( April 30.1997 to May 10.1997).
