Dear Mr. Sellman:
On March 17,1998, Wisconsin Electric (WE) Power Company submitted its response to GL 97-05. During review of WE's response to GL 97-05, the staff identified one area that required additional clarification in order to assess the adequacy of steam generator inspection techniques employed at Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 1. The staff's request for additional information (RAI)is enclosed.

BEQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Based on the your response to GL 97-05, the NRC staff was unable to determine the mode of degradation responsible for development of the volumetric steam generator tube indications that were stated to be currently in operation at Point Beach Unit 1. Specifically, supply the location for the volumetric indications discussed in the GL response and related pulled tube or industry data that supports your con;'usion regarding the nature of the indications. Since these indications are dispositioned by sizing, submit a written report that describes the qualification of the nondestructive examination method being used and the technical basis for the acceptability of the technique used.
