DOCKET NO.
50-271 UNIT Vermont Yankee DATE 871210 COMPLETED BY G. A. Wallin TELEPHONE (802) 257-7711 REPORT MJNTH November SUIMARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES Highlights 4
Vermont Yankee operated at 88.9% of rated thermal power for the month.
Gross electrical generation was 344,361 MWHe or 88.6% of design electrical capacity.
Operating Summary The following is a chronological description of plant operations including other pertinent items of interest for the month:
At the beginning of the reporting period the plant was operating at 99.2% of j
rated thermal power.
871108 At 0125 hours0.00145 days
0.0347 hours
2.066799e-4 weeks
4.75625e-5 months
, the reactor scrammed on a high level Main Turbine trip. This was caused by a restriction in the Feedwater Control Valves.
Investigation revealed that the restriction was imposed by mispositioning of the manual operator shafts and handwheels in a position other than " neutral". This hampered the Feedwater Control Valves in regulating reactor water level during the planned power reduction. (See Unit Shutdowns and Power Reductions) 871110 At 0348 hours0.00403 days
0.0967 hours
5.753968e-4 weeks
1.32414e-4 months
, the reactor was critical.
871110 At 1854 hours0.0215 days
0.515 hours
0.00307 weeks
7.05447e-4 months
, the turbine-generator was phased to the grid and a power ascension commenced.
871113 At 0030 hours3.472222e-4 days
0.00833 hours
4.960317e-5 weeks
1.1415e-5 months
, reduced power to 66% to perform a rod pattern adjust-ment.
871113 At 0205 hours0.00237 days
0.0569 hours
3.38955e-4 weeks
7.80025e-5 months
, completed the rod pattern adjustment and a return to full power was initiated.
At the end of the reporting period, the plant was operating at 100% of rated thermal power.
