H TEST ASSEMBLIES (LTAs) CONTAINING URANIUM-236 INTO THE UNIT 2 CORE I The purpose of this submittal is to provide for your review the topical report associated with the insertion of a limited number of LTAs beginning with the Unit 2, operating Cycle 10 core. TVA discussed the use of LTAs containing Uranium-236 with the staff in two meetings held i on March 5, 1998 and July 8, 1998. Additionally, a change to the SQN i Unit 2 technical specifications is presently being developed and is l planned for issuance to the staff by September 1998.

The enclosure provides the topical report that includes the Blended Uranium Lead Test Assembly Design Report (BAW-2328) prepared by j Framatome Cogema Fuels, the ORNL Chemical and Isotopic Analysis prepared '

by Oak Ridge National Labs, and the TVA LTA Performance Monitoring Plan. I The Blended Uranium Lead Test Assembly Design Report provides the design  ;

and analysis for the installation of the LTAs at SON. The ORNL Chemical j and Isotopic Analysis provides the makeup of the material used to )

manufacture the blended' uranium. The TVA LTA Performance Monitoring  ;
