The Chicago Sun-Times, in its November 21, 1975, edicion, will carry - a story of an environmental group's allegations that geological evaluations of some plant sites made by Dames and Moore may have been inadequate. Citizens for a Better Environment (CBE), a Chicago-based group, provided the Sun-Times with two it.cernal memoranda prepared by U. S. Geological Survey staff members which were critical of Dames and Moore's performance in connection with the North .5na site. Based on these memos, the problems actually experienced at North b a, and j the fact that Dames and Moore performed geological evaluations for Eta many of the sites in the midwest and elsewhere in the country, CBE is requesting in the story that the NRC investigate the adequacy of ' { ' the work performed by Dames and Moore at these other sites. CBE has not contacted the NRC directly. The Division of Reactor Licensing confirmed that the two memoranda were considered during the showcause hearing on the North Anna geology and appear as staff exhibits SX-10 and SX-16 in the hearing transcript. CBE plans to issue a press release on November 21, after the story appears in the Sun-Times. Followup action by the NRC will be based on the contents of the story and any subsequent information received from CBE. Region III obtained this information from Bruce Ingersoll, Chicago Sun-Times at 2:15 p.m. on November 20, 1975.
