SAFEGUARDS, WORKER HEALTH AND PUBLIC HEALTH RELATED TO TRANSPORTATION OF SOLID WASTE Region I received a letter on December 17 frcm Ms. Suzanne Weber of the " Ecology Action of Oswego" (New York) regarding allegations of improper handling of solid wastes on site and in transit, radiation protection of workers and truck drivers, physical projections of water intake structures on Lake Ontario, harrassment of guards.by yorkers, and integrity of waste shipping containers, and other more general issues.
=n The " Ecology Action of Oswego" intervened in the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 Hearing on issuance of the Construction Permit.
A letter acknowledging receipt is being sent to Ms. Weber.
Our letter vill also request facts she may have to facilitate our preliminary inquiry.
Ms. Weber has widely distributed the letter to the News Media, which has called the Region for comment. The State of New York has been informed.
A press release is not planned, but reporters have been told that IE is making its usual preliminary inquiry to determine if an investigation is D7 warranted.
