Docket Nos. 50-334/50-412; License Nos. DPR-66/NPF-73 November 17, 1987 Reactor Trip at Beaver Valley No. 2 Gentlemen:
During conference calls with Region I personnel and J. D.
I Sieber on November 20, 1987 and K. D.
Grada on November 25, 1987, the following items were discussed:
- Duquesne Light Company has identified the primary cause of the reactor trip and momentary loss of offsite power that occurred on November 17, 1987.
- The modifications to the thrust bearing monitoring circuit power supply and 4kV breaker circuitry have been completed and testing will be performed on the breakers November 21, 1987.
- Requisite modifications to the Beaver Valley Unit No. 1 circuitry will be completed during the refueling outage which is scheduled to begin on December 11, 1987.
- An evaluation and report on the existing Beaver Valley Unit No. 1 thrust bearing trip circuitry will be forwarded to the region within two weeks.
We appreciate the substantial efforts put forth by the onsite NRC team during their fact finding inspection and believe the corrective actions taken will preclude a recurrence of this problem in the future.
Very truly yours, 8712070346 871125 A f' ADOCK0500gg4 g
