UNPLANNED STACK GAS RELEASE ABOVE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION LIMIT The Commonwealth Edison Company notified an IE:III inspector at the site that an instantaneous gas release of 105,000 uCi/sec occurred from the auxiliary building stack at 1700 hours0.0197 days <br />0.472 hours <br />0.00281 weeks <br />6.4685e-4 months <br /> on August 20, 1975.

The release exceeded the 60,000 uC1/see Technical Specification limit for approximately 12 minutes.

The occurrence was caused by venting letdown water gases tc., the auxiliary building equipment drain tank while the hatch co' vers were  %

-not properly secured. This caused the release of gas to the auxiliary ~

and refueling buildings. .

I Commonwealth Edison reported that no personnel exposure limits were exceeded. A press release is being considered by the licensee. The State of Illinois has been notified.

A health physicist from the Chicago Regional Office will be at the site on August 22, 1975, to review the circumstances relating to the event.

Region III (Chicago) received notification of this occurrence from the inspector at the site who was informed by Co=monwealth Edison at 1445 hrs on August 21, 1975.
