POWER REDUCTION DUE TO HIGH FISH MORTALITY  :,

On November 1, 2, and 3, 1975, fish mortality (primarily white perch and i blueback herring) on the intake screens of the Circulating Water System i was 11,600, 13,400 and 7200 respectively. These values exceeded the  !

Environmental Technical Specification action level of 5000 per day on three consecutive days. To reduce mortality two circulating water pumps were shutdown on November 3 and one was shut down on Novembe'r 4. This ggg reduced power from 100% to 30%. ~

.,.m Although fish mortality is unpredictable on a given day, values of this  :

(' magnitude were projected in the Environmental Reviews of this plant and l action levels were established to prevent unnecessary excessive con- l tinued mortality. '

Media interest is expected because of press attention given to environmental matters and plant availability.

A press release is not planned.
