TRANSPORTATION OF SPECIAL NUCLEAR MATERIAL THRU THE CITY OF NEW YORK At 5:00 p.m. on July 24, 1975, the Director, Office of Radiation Control, New York City, informed an NRC licensee, Transnuclear, Inc., by telephone, that scheduled SNM shipments thru New York City would not be permitted.

The Director, Office of Radiation Control, was acting on the authority of the Commissioner of Health, New York City.

Region I informed New York City that the license for the shipment had not been issued and that NRC, the Commission itself, approved each li-New York City was aware of this and appreciated the extent of' cense.

the information and the communication provided by NRC. Notwithstanding, their intent is to prohibit transportation thru New York City. They hoped that another Port of Entry or route could be established by NRC.

Media interest is not expected at this time. The State of New York is being kept informed. A press release is not planned.
