EXPORT OF HIGHLY ENRICHED UF6 IE was informed at 12:01 a.m., July 9, 1975, by Transnuclear, Inc. that they had just received a call from Dr. Solon, Director, Office of Radi-l ation Control, New York City, N.Y.
Dr. Solon stated that he was enroute I
to the George Washington Bridge to meet and stop a shipment of UF, which 6
was scheduled to arrive there at 2:00 a.m.
This shipment was a NRC licensed l
shipment from Goodyear 's Ohio plant to Frankfurt, Germany.
This shipment i
was a direct truck shipment from Ohio to Kennedy Airport.
The shipment arrived at the George' Washington Bridge at 5:00 a.m.

-Dr. Solon, who had been at the Bridge for several hours, announced that the shipment was not to cross the bnidge or to go through New York City.
The Bridge Off,1cer asked for Dr. Solon's authority.
Dr. Solon's hand-
! I written note was not accepted. This shipment was passed and escorted through New York City by the New York City's Police Department in accord-ance with standard procedures.
Dr. Solon followed the shipment to the Kennedy Airport.

appropriately carried out and that there was no security problem.

Media interest is expected because of very high local interest in the h
