IODINE RELEASE RATE ROM REACTOR BUILDING VENT I
The reactor was shutdown on April 16, and on April 22, for problems relating to minor system leakage that contributed to high iodine re-leases from the reactor building vent (less than TS limits). Both shutdowns required system de-pressurization which results in increased I
iodine releases from the fuel and the clean up system. The increase in the iodine releases are in addition to normal high release rates due to poor fuel performance.
Mc The iodine release problem is not new and has received active attention over the last,several months. Design modifications have been already k
made and are presently being installed - charcoal filter additions.
The releases from the plant stack are low due to the augmented off gas systen and the stack height (dispersion factor).
Media interest is, expected due to the extended shutdown, expected to be for several more days, caused by release rates close to license limit.
The State has been and is being kept informed. No press release 1s planned.
