Quad Cities Station Units 1 & 2

" Discharge Pipe Pressure for Core and containment System Technical Specifications" NRC Docket Nos. 50-254 & 265 Reference (1): Letter from M. S. Turbak to T. E. Murley dated October 6, 1987 (2): Letter from G. Holahan to D. L. Butterfield, dated October 6, 1987

)

Dear Mr. Murley:

In reference letter (1), Commonwealth Edison requested to amend our Technical Specifications for Quad Cities Station Units 1 & 2.

The change pertains to the manner by which we maintain the HPCI and RCIC discharge pipe level. By reference (2), we received a waiver of compliance for this specification for the time period during which this amendment is being reviewed.

In a November 19, 1987 conference call with members of your staff we agreed to change the surveillance requirements from " monthly".to "every 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />". This surveillance requirement pertains to the venting of the HPCI/RCIC piping and verification of water flow from the high point of the system's discharge piping when the system is lined up to take suction from the torus. This change results in a more conservative surveillance requirement, hence the evaluation of Significant Hazards Consideration has been unaffected due to this change.
