Dear Sir:

-This: letter contains clarification for the proposed amendment'to the Technical Specifications for. Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-35 and NPF-52 for Catawba Units 1~and 2 dated October 14, 1987..The request involved increasing the amount

of time from 2000 hours0.0231 days <br />0.556 hours <br />0.00331 weeks <br />7.61e-4 months <br /> to:3000 hours per calendar year-in which the VQ valves may.be opened.

-This' clarification is intended to reflect the actual basis for the conditions which must be present.to allow the VQ valves to be opened (i.e., for pressure.

control, ALARA and respirable air quality considerations for personnel entry and for. surveillance tests that require the valve (s) to be open).

Since this letter is clarification to a previous submittal, no license fee is required.-

pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91 (b) (1) the appropriate South Carolina State Official is being provided a copy of this request.
