This refers to the routine safety inspection (50-293/87-34) conducted ' by
Dr. M. McBride, Mr. J. Lyash and Mr. T. Kim of this office 'on August 4, '1987
to September 14,
1987 at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station,
Plymouth,
Massachusetts. Areas examined during this inspection are described .in the NRC
Region I Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter.
We'have reviewed your response to a 1985 violation regarding failure to perform
required post maintenance testing of Standby Gas Treatment ' System.
You
contested the . violation as documented in your response letter dated May 24,
1985 on the basis that no specific time limitation for performance of the test
!
was included in the technical specifications.
As discussed at the exit
interview, we have concluded that this position is not appropriate, and that
the violation was justified.
Your corrective actions taken to date, however,
appear adequate to ensure the timely performance of this testing. Therefore,
no further response is required.
Your cooperation with us in this matter is appreciated.
