The recent events at Davis Besse Nuclear Power plant have been disturbing. I have been following the loss of off site power in the local papers as well as the NRC Intemet site.
I have questions regarding the emergency diesel generators #1 and #2 at the plant. The #2 generator was declared inoperable leaving only #1.
Is one generator adequate to supply power to the all plant functions?
How long can one expect service from one EDG7 Do the spent fuel pools require electricity to maintain circulating water?
l Is there a time period which the spent fuel pools can go wi" out an electric source?
How much electricity can one EDG supply?
If both EDGs were declared inoperable (Event #34437 states that the temperatures in #1 was above the limit and temperatures in #2 were close to the limit), what is the next backup source? What happens if there is no backup, no electricity?
What caused the temperatures to exceed and almost exceed the limits?
Why does the description of Event #34437 (daily events report) state that #1 EDG was in an inoperable
' status and the next sentence states that both EDG were running?
Please respond as soon as possible. Thank you.
