.Vogtle ' Electric Generating Plant - Unit 2 Readiness Review Program On. September 9,1987, Georgia Power Company (GPC) made a-presentation ' to the. Nuclear Regulat ory Commission (NRC) staff at Region II -Headquart'ers on.the Unit 2 Readiness' Review Program; plans and status.
At that meeting, GPC briefed the NRC on its plans for incremental review and submittal of ' Module 03A, Initial Test Program - Preoperational Test Phase.
Inc rement al ' review of this module was responsive to an observation in the NRC assessment of the GPC Unit 1 Pilot Readiness Review that an i
. i nc remental review may improve module effectiveness and NRC i nt er a c tio n'.
Module 03A was chosen af ter discussions between NRC. staff and GPC.
During the September 9, 19 87 meeting, G PC informed the commission that Module 23, Plant Security, was being evaluated for submittal in increments like Module 03A.
In a letter dated October 7, 1987 the NRC, Region II issued a
. report on the September 9,
19 87 meeting and its review of the GPC proposed Unit 2 Readiness Review Program which was submitted by G PC to the NRC on May 8, 1987.
NRC stated its understanding that Module 03A, " Initial Test Program" would i
be submitted for inc remental NRC review, that GPC was considering Module 23, Plant Security, for inc rement al 'NRC review, and - that the last module would be submitted by
-December 1988.
NRC stated its int ent ion to fully participate in the Readiness Review Program by incorporating its review into the. regular inspection program.
The purpose of this letter is to confirm each of the NRC l
understandings discussed in the October 7, 1987 NRC letter as
- summa rized above and to provide a Readiness Review Program i
. module schedule to the NRC for review and comment.
