R OCTOBER 23,11987, RE REVISED PART I'0F LICENSE.
BACKGROUND.
s In 1984, whenithe:GE-license was renewed, Pari! I of-the license renewal application was incorporated into.the license; In the subject application,~Part-I has been l
resubmitted with minor? revisions. Existing License Condition 12 has been
' incorporated.into~new Section 1.8.10.
New Section I.8.11 has been proposed for
- storage of. digest sludge.
' DISCUSSION Proposed Section 1.8.11 would authorize the storage of uranium contaminated
-digest sludge pending final. disposal of the sludge. The storage of this material in.a clay-lined, diked area.is acceptable to the staff.
Condition /12ofthe.licensehasbeenincorporatedintonewSection1.8.10in Part I of-the application. License' Condition 11'will be revised to incorporate
'the two changes in.Section-1.8'of the application.
GE ;is authorized to possess " fuel rods" containing trace quantities of plutonium..
GE proposed changing the. possession limit to fuel material. Because the nuclear safety program is not designed for large quantities of unclad plutonium and nn
. safety demonstration was provided, existing Condition 7.F will not be. changed.
FINDINGS / RECOMMENDATION The-staff finds that the proposed revisions will have no adverse effects on i
the public health and safety or on -the environment. Approval of the
