NUCLEAR PROJECT N0. 1, DOCKET NO. 50-460 TDI DIESEL GENERATOR OWNERS GROUP ENGINE BASE MATERIAL INSPECTION The Supply System has performed a metallographic inspection of both of our Transamerica Delaval diesel engine bases to determine whether degenerate Widmanstatten graphite is present per NUREG 1216, Section 2.1.3.15. One base was found to be normal Class 40 grey iron and the other, engine 1-EDG-GEN-1B, contains Widmanstatten graphite.
NUREG 1216 requires that the NRC be notified and a detailed assessment of the adequacy of the engine base to support nuclear standby service be provided.
Due to the construction delay status of WNP-1, a detailed assessment will not be prepared until construction restart.
