On June 9,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Zion 1 and 2 reactor facilities. The
j
eticlosed report presents the results of that inspection.

Perfom)ance during this inspection period was characterized by proper plant operations staff
l
oversight of plant activities including effective monitoring of the spent fuel pool. Radiation
'
protection personnel and fuel handlers demonstrated good teamwork in transferring new fuel
assemtiies from the new fuel storage vault to shipping casks for shipment back to the vendor.
However, the failure to properly post a radiation area indicates that strong management oversight
f
of this performance' area is still warranted.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a ecpy of this letter and its

enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
