The staff has made considerable progress in identifying issues associated with potential modifications of the Comission's Safety Goal Policy statement. Since none of the. issues identified suggest that an imediate update of the policy statement is needed, I approve the staff's recommendation in SECY-98-101 and request that the staff provide the-Comission an Information Paper describing the status of issues being evaluated by December 31, 1998.
