Letter from OPPD (R. L. Andrews) to NRC (J. E. Gagliardo) dated August 13, 1986 (LIC-86-376)

Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

Security Building Modifications I

i In Reference 2, you were informed of OPPD's intention to make major modifica-l tions to the Security Building, including an expansion of the building,

{

improved traffic flow, and a replacement of the E-Field with microwave coverage over the building.

l The construction sequence was planned to minimize any impact on security, and l

appropriate compensatory actions were planned and implemented as needed to insure adequate security.

The 3,520 sq. ft. addition to the Fort Calhoun Station Security Building was usable for the 1987 refueling outage. This addition provides a more effective i

traffic pattern for the processing of personnel in and out of the station's protected area.

There now are two controlled exit lanes from the plant, a separate area for processing visitors, and improved controls for processing incoming personnel.

All of the above construction, with the exception of a few followup items, is complete.

The E-Field system is being reinstalled because a microwave coverage system would not adapt to the new structure. Once the E-Field installation is complete, all compensatory security actions will be reduced, and normal operations will be resumed.

Sincerely, W
