MEDICAL CAPSULES CONTAINING IODINE-131 MISSING FROM LICENSEE'S FACILITY The licensee informed Region III (Chicago) on December 13, 1976 by telephone that their facility had been burglarized some time over the weekend of December 11 and 12,1976. A total of fifteen diagnostic capsules containing iodine-131 (six containing 27 microcuries each and nine containing 15.5 microcuries each) were taken along with cash. The capsules similar in size to the ordinary " cold capsule" are bright yellow or bright orange in color.

The burglary has been reported to the Kansas City Missouri police who have initiated an investigation. Region III was in telephone contact with the officer conducting th9 investigation who indicated he has reason to believe at this time this was an "inside job", since there were no signs of forced entry.

Neither the licensee nor Region III plan to make a news release.

Region III informed the States of Missouri and Kansas of this event by telephone on December 13, 1976.

Region III was informed of this event by telephone at approximately 10:20 a.m., on December 13, 1976.
