This preliminary notification constitutes notice of events of possible public I
l interest. The information presented is as initially received and verified and

is basically all that is known by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff j
as of this date.

SUBJECT:
IRANIAN OFFICIAL IMPLIES VAGUE THREAT TO U.S. RESOURCES The Associated Press (AP) reported that in a recent Tehkan radio station l
broadcast an Iranian official indicated in a public speech that U.S. centers, i
nuclear reactors and other U.S. interests worldwide can be more vulnerable to attack than Iranian missile bases in Iran.
Because the information, as reported, could be a vague threat to U.S. Nuclear facilities, the NRC is monitoring the situation and is in contact with other l
government Agencies as to the significance of this statement. Based on the information currently available, NRC concludes that licensee actions in response to information reported by AP are not warranted at this time.
If additional l
information is received which changes this position, notification will be made.
An Information Notice has been sent to all power reactor facilities holding an i
operating license (0L) or a construction permit (CP), research and nonpower reactor facilities, and fuel fabrication and processing facilities using or possessing formula quantities of special nuclear material. The notice informs 1
them of the NRC position on this information and commits to notifying them if j
this position changes.

Purpose:
