_POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information Presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Facility: Beaver Valley Unit 1 (DN 50-334)

Subject:

FEEDWATER SYSTEM P1 PING VIBRATION The plant was shutdown at about 10.:30 a.m. on December 27, 1976, when feedline vibration was experienced similar to the event which occurred on November 5, 1976 (

Reference:

PNO-76-186). The power level at the time of the disturbance was approximately 75 percent. The licensee is determining the extent of damage as a result of this event.

On December 23, 1976, the licensee completed a series of tests which were designed to determine the cause of this feedline vibration.

Test transients were inserted while plant conditions were the same as those in effect at the time of the November 5 occurrence. The feed-line vibration could not be reproduced at that time.

Media interect is expected because of previous similar occurrence and close attention being given to problems at nuclear facilities. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been informed. A press release is not planned at this time.

NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone call from a Reactor Inspector on site at 12:30 p.m. on December 27, 1976.
