EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION INSPECTION - CLINTON NUCLEAR PLANT This letter confirms the dates of August 17-21, 1987, for the NRC Environmental Qualification (EQ) Inspection of electrical and instrumentation equipment at the Clinton site.
These dates were established during a July 23, 1987, telephone conversation between Mr. M. D' Haem of your staff and Mr. Anil Gautam of my staff.
The inspection will be performed by a six member inspection team with Mr. Anil Gautam of the Region III office as lead inspector.
The following areas will be inspected:
Implementation of corrective action commitments addressed in the final Clinton EQ Safety Evaluation Report.
Compliance to EQ regulations of 10 CFR 50.49, including Program o
Procedures, Master Equipment List, Maintenance, Procurement, Upgrading of Replacement Equipment, Quality Assurance, and Employee Training.
Adeque y of equipment qualification files, including responses to relevant NRC Information Notices and Bulletins.
Installation and maintenance of selected plant EQ equipment.
A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on August 17, 1987, at the plant site.
A plant walkdown inspection of selected EQ equipment is scheduled for August 19, 1987, and an NRC exit meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on August 21, 1987.
To facilitate NRC preparation for this inspection your staff has been requested to submit the following EQ documents no later than August 10, 1987.

Licensee's response to Generic Letter 84-24 (D. G. Eisenhut to licensee's and applicants dated December 27, 1984;
Subject:
Certification of Compliance to 10 CFR 50.49).

In addition, please provide specific maintenance / surveillance procedures for ECCS motors,
' transmitters, and temperature elements.

Final NRC EQ SER issued to the plant for 10 CFR 50.49 and Regulatory Guide 1.97 equipment and any appropriate licensee responses to the SER.
The licensee is requested to make a presentation at.the entrance meeting to address:

. Organization Chart with EQ applicability.
b.
Overview of EQ Program, c.
Overview of EQ documentation file organization such as how files address meeting EQ criteria (10 CFR 50.49, DDR, NUREG 0588), instrument accuracy, and submergence, d.
Arrangements for plant walkdown (the NRC team leader.will identify selected equipment samples at the entrance).
