SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR MAIN STEAM INSTRUMENT LINE LEAKS AT FERMI-2 (TAC NO. 65089)
The enclosed Safety Evaluation Report addresses the findings of the NRC review of the Fermi-2 main steam instrument line leak incidents which occurred in January 1987, and recurred in April 1987.
This review consisted of an on-site l
investigation conducted by Messrs. A. Lee (NRC HQ) and I. Yin (Region III l
l Inspector) on April 28-29, 1987, of DECO's actions after each incident, and a

review of the information provided subsequent to tho on-site investigation by t
DECO letter dated May 22, 1987, May 26, 1987, and June 23, 1987, (one more l
recent letter providing the analytical results of your consultant, liopper and i
Associates).

l On the basis of tho evaluation presented in the enclosed safety evaluation I
report, the NRC staff concludes that DECO has satisfactorily resolved the I
problems concerning the main steam instrument line leaks which occurred at l
1 ermi-2 in January 1987 and that recurred in April 1987.
