Pursuant to the requirements of Article IHA-6000 of the ASME Code,Section XI, enclosed for your review is the Owner's Data Report for Inservice Inspection (Form NIS-1) for the inservice inspection activities conducted at Plant Hatch Unit 1 during the Fall 1988 maintenance /
refueling outage.
Georgia Power Company (GPC) has performed several inspections not specifically required by ASME Code Section' XI, on selected Class 1, 2, and 3 components.
The results of the Code and augmented inspections performed at Unit 1 are summarized below and reported in the Owner's Data Report.
o Ultrasonic examinations of austenitic stainless steel piping welds in the' primary coolant pressure boundary per Generic Letter 88-01 and NUREG-0313, Revisicn 2.
Results are discussed in the Enclosure under " Class 1 Examinations."
o Feedwater nozzle and control rod drive return line welds were examined per NUREG-0619.
No reportable indications were detected.

s U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission March 8, 1989 Page Two o Reactor water clean up piping was replaced and baseline inspections performed from the RHR tie-in out to the second isolation valve.
o In response to the Surry pipe break incident, GPC performed ultrasonic testing (UT) thickness measurements on selected components in the extraction steam, auxiliary vents and drain, and condensate /feedwater piping system.
Erosion / corrosion results were acceptable.

o All 20 jet pump hold-down beams were UT examined pei General Electric (GE)
Service Information Letter (SIL)-330.
Two r
reportable indications were detected and both jet pump beams were replaced.
8 o All 36 shroud head hold-down bolts were UT examined per GE SIL-433.
No reportable indications were detected.
o Per Nuclear Regulatory Commission Bulletin 80-13, the core spray sparger and associated piping were visually examined.
No reportable indications were detected.
o Visual examination on 10 of 20 jet pump mixing nozzles revealed no significant erosion in the throat area.
This visual inspection was performed because during a 1988 examination of the Unit 2 inlet mixers, erosion was detected.
