MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT FACILITY (GUILDING 055) l BACKGROUND l On September 22, 1987, ESG requested that Building 055 he removed from the l license as an authorited place of use.
DISCUSSION l On December 18, 1986, ESG presented a final radiation survey report to Region V (attachment 1), and requested that a confirmatory survey be conducted. On August 21, 1987, Region V submitted results of a confirmatory survey conducted l by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (0RAU) (attachment 2) which shows that l contamination levels are below licensing limits specified in " Guidelines for i
Decontamination of Facilities and Equipment Prior to Release for Unrestricted Use or Termination of Licenses for Byproduct, Source, or Special Nuclear Material",
dated August 1987 (attachment 3).
CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION Based on the results of the surveys, residual contamination is less than limits in the license. Therefore, it is recommended Building 055 be removed from the ,
license as an authorized place of use and revisions to the following conditions: ?
l Condition 8.B.2 which authorized possession of special nuclear material in l Building 055 is deleted.
l l .. Condition 8.B.3 is renumbered as 8.B.2 and revised to reflect the removal of l
Building 055 as an authorized place of use.
Conditions 6C, 7C, and 8C expired on June 30, 1985, and are hereby deleted.
Conditions 60, 7D and 80 are revised and renumbered as 6C. 7C, and 8C respectively, reflecting the removal of Building 055 as an authorized place of use.
