i NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE 9-1-87 At-the beginning of ~ the month the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) was operating at approximately 100% of rated thermal power with 531 MWe-net being supplied to the grid.

At 1321 hours0.0153 days
0.367 hours
0.00218 weeks
5.026405e-4 months
while performing a surveillance test the RCIC room deluge system was found to be Inoperable, thus putting

~ the plant in a 14 day Limiting Condition for Operat*on (LCO).

This system was' declared operable 9-4-87 at 2209 hours0.0256 days
0.614 hours
0.00365 weeks
8.405245e-4 months
following corrective maintenance, ending the 14 day LCO.

9-3-87 At 0751 hours0.00869 days
0.209 hours
0.00124 weeks
2.857555e-4 months
, with the plant in power operation, the Reactor Water Cleanup j

(RWCU) system was taken out-of-service'to allow maintenance on an RWCU lsolation valve (M02740).

During maintenance, the valve was inadvertently de-energized open without entering a 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
LCO.

The cause of the event was personnel error on the part of utility licensed operators who de-energized the valve in the open position without entering an LCO.

The personnel involved were counseled.

(LER 87-026) 9-10-87 With the plant in power operation, a Primary Containment isolation System (PCIS) valve cycled to.Its closed position because of.a loss of power.

The cause was determined to be a loose connection at the power supply breaker.

The power was restored after nine minutes had passed when the closed breaker switch was touched while investigating the.lsolation.

The terminal connections were later tightened.

(LER 87-027) i 9-17-87 At 0723 hours0.00837 days
0.201 hours
0.0012 weeks
2.751015e-4 months
a 7 day LCO was entered when the Diesel fire pump was taken i

out-of-service for planned maintenance.

At 1930 hours0.0223 days
0.536 hours
0.00319 weeks
7.34365e-4 months
the pump was returned to service, ending the 7 day LCO.

9-22-87 At 2122 hours0.0246 days
0.589 hours
0.00351 weeks
8.07421e-4 months
a 7 day LCO was entered when two River Water Supply (RWS) pumps were taken out-of-service.

On 9-23-87 at 1411 hours0.0163 days
0.392 hours
0.00233 weeks
5.368855e-4 months
the RWS pumps were declared operable, ending the 7 day LCO.

9-28-87 At 1954. hours a 7 day LCO was entered when the diesel fire pump was taken out-of-service to perform corrective maintenance.

At 1430 hours0.0166 days
0.397 hours
0.00236 weeks
5.44115e-4 months
on 9-30-87, following corrective maintenance, the pump was declared operable, I

ending the 7 day LCO.

9-30-87 At the end of the month the plant was operating at 93% of rated thermal

~

power (due to work on the condensate domineralizers) wIth 501 MWe-net being supplied to the grid.
