Dear Mr. MacDonald:

In response to your letter of 19 June, 1987 concerning the public disclosure of information contained on DOE /NRC Forms 741/742, our comments are provided below.

We do not take any special ; precautions to insure that our 742's are transmitted "in confidence".

(We have never had to send a 741.)

While our Special Nuclear Material Inventory is not avail-able through public sources, we do not see any reason why it couldn't be.

As we are a state university, our " competitive position" would not be adversely affected by public disclosure of this information.

Finally, we have not " classified" any of the information on our 742's under 10 CFR 73.21.
