Subject: NRC Region I Inspection Report No. 50-309/88-24
Gentlemen:
This transmits the December 20, 1988 through January 30, 1989, routine inspec-
tion findings of Mr. C. Holden and Mr. R. Freudenberger at the Maine Yankee
Atomic Power Plant, Wiscasset, Maine.
Those findings were based on observa-
tions of activities, interviews, and document reviews, and have been discussed
with Dr. Boulette of your staff.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. Although the
inadvertent actuation of safety injection on December 22, 1988, had minimal
-
impact, we are concerned about this event since we view inadvertent actuations
as possible performance indicators.
Your review of this event appears exten-
sive and we will review your corrective actions in subsequent inspections.

Several concerns were identified with the implementation of the Fire Protection
Program; we will continue to monitor corrective actions which you are
implementing.
