Dear Mr. Cooley:

This refers to your letter to the NRC's Atomic Safety and Licensine Soard (ASL8) dated November 3, 1986 concerning the James V. Padovano criminal case. In response to your letter, Administrative Lew Judpe Sheldon J. Wolfe asked the NRC staff to advise you of what the NRC and the App icants have done with respect to investi-gating the welds which had been inspected by Mr. Padovano. The actions taken by the NRC staff and by the Applicant (Public Service company of New Hampshire) with respect to investigating the welds previously inspected by Mr. Padovano are de-scribed in the following documents:
