UNIT:

Catawba 2 DATE:

02/15/89 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

Month:

January, 1989 Catawba Unit 2 began the month of January without any significant reductions from 100% power..

At 0943, on 01/12, the Reactor was manually tripped when a S/G Main Feedwater Control Valve closed due to a blown fuse. The unit returned to service at 2341 on 01/14, and returned to near full power on 01/15.

On 01/21 at 1849, the Reactor was manually tripped following a Turbine runback to 51%

caused by Generator Stator Cooling Water high temperature. The unit returned to service at 2335 on 01/22, and following a hold at 45% power for Nuclear Instrumentation Calibration, returned to near full power on 01/23. The unit.

then operated at or near full power, without any significant reductions, for the remainder of the month.
