This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. H. D. Chaney of this office

during the period January 17-20, 1989, of activities authorized by NRC

Operating License DPR-40 for the Fort Calhoun Station, to Mr. Chaney's review

of an incident reported to NRC's resident inspector on January 26, 1989, a,d to

the discussion of our findings with you and other members of your staff at the

co..clusion of the onsite inspection on January 20, 1989.

Areas examined during the inspection included occupational radiation exposure

controls. Within this area, the :nspection consisted of selective

examination of procedures and repre;entative records, interviews with

personnel, and observations by the inspector. The inspection findings are

documented in the enclosed inspection ieport.

During this inspection, it was found that certain of your activities were in ,

apparent violation of NRC requirements. As discussed during the telephone

conversation on February 9,1989, between J. Fisicaro of your staff and

Mr. R. L. Bangart of this office, we have scheduled an enforcement conference

in our office at 1:00 p.m. on February 24, 1989, to discuss these apparent

violations.

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously

identified inspection findings. The status of these items is identified in

paragraph 3 of the enclosed report.

Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to

discuss them with you.
