Docket 70-734: RelocatiZn of GA's Sorrento Electronics Operations a
9 Dear Mr. Bracht The purpose of this letter is to advise you that GA Technologies Inc.
(GA) is relocating its Sorrento Electronics operations.
Sorrento Electronics was previously known as Special Products.
Sorrento Electronics currently occupies five separate buildings located in nearby Torrey Pines Industrial Park.
The new leased facilities are located a few (approximately five) miles further frm our main site at 10240 and 10247 Flanders Court.
'Ihis relocation will allow consolidation of Sorrento Electronics into two interconnected buildings, thereby improving the efficiency of many aspects of our operations.
We possession and use of special nuclear material by sorrento Electronics is as authorized by our State of California Radioactive Material License (No. 0145-80).
The quantity of StE is limited to a few hundred grams; typically, W235 contained in fission chambers.
With such a mall quantity of SFE involved and pursuant to 10 CFR 73.67 (c), no security plan concerning Sorrento Electronics is required. Physical protection will be provided in accordance with the
" General Performance Objectives" for the physical protection of SrE of low strategic significance as specified in 10 CFR 73.67 (a) and the
" Fixed Site Requirements for Special 1Alclear Material of Low Strategic Significance" given in 10 CFR 73.67 (f).
%e timing of the lease arrangements involved is such that we nust relocate by the end of September 1987. After Sorrento Electronics has vacated their Torrey Pines Industrial Park facilities, we will delete all references to Special Products (now Sorrento Electronics) fra our Fixed Site and Transportation Plan for the Protection of Special CC: r
