Inspection Report No. 50-289/87-10
During the period from April 24, 1987, to May 29, 1987, trembers of NRC Region I
staff conducted routine safety inspections at your facility. We documented the
results of that inspection in the enclosed report. At the conclusion of the
inspection period, Mr. F. Young of my staff summarized the inspection findings
with you and other members of your staff.
In general, we continue to note that the plant is being operated in a competent
and safe manner.
Positive control of the plant was seen during both reactor
trips that occurred during this inspection period.
Even though the first
reactor trip was planned and properly coordinated, we still have concerns about
initiating plant transients or trips for economic reasons, since any such
transient increases the potential challenges to safety-related equipment.
In
your conference call with representatives of the NRC Office of Nuclear Reactor
Regulation and with us on April 28, 1987, you committed to provide a letter to
the NRC describing your long-term plans with respect to the steam generator
fouling problem.
This letter, which you plan to submit by July 1987, should
specifically address your intentions regarding future planned transients to
alleviate the fouling problem.
No response to this letter is required.
