This refers to the routine ' safety inspection conducted by Messrs. P. M. Byron,
D. C. Kosloff, and L. McGregor of this office on June 1, 1987 to July 31, 1987,
of activities at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station authorized by Facility
Operating License No. NPF-3 and to the discussion of our findings with
Mr. L. Storz at the conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the
inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared 'to be in violation
of NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Notice. With respect to
Item A. the inspection showed that action had been taken to correct the
identified violation and to prevent recurrence. Our understanding of your
corrective actions is described in Paragraph 3.d.1 of the enclosed inspection
report.
Consequently, no reply to this violation is required and we have no
further questions regarding this matter at this time.
Regarding the verbal change to a procedure described in Paragraph 3.d.2, a
written response is required.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.
