.. REQ ST i 7-Ss August 31, 1987 g Freedom of Information Officer U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, D.C. 20555 FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST f

Dear Sir or Madam:

This is a request for information under the provisions of the Freedom of l Information Act as amended (5 U.S.C. 552).

I request a complete and thorough search of all filing systems for all records or documents maintained by your agency concerning the operations and operating condicion of the Davis-Besse nuclear p6wer plant on Dec. 31, 1986.

These documents include, but are not limited to, daily operations reports ,

maintenance reports for Dec. 31, 1986, and any other documents that would describe the operations or operating condition of the plant on Dec. 31, 1986.

If daily documents are not available, then I would request that you send me documents ft- the month of December,1986, containing the type of operating information descrioed above.

I am making this request in my capacity as a news reporter for WTOL-TV.

I hope to use the requested information for a news story.

If all or any part of this request is denied, please cite the specific exemption (s) which you think justifies your refusal to release the information and inform me of your agency's administrative appeal procedures available to me under the law.

If there are any fees for searching for, or copying, the records I have requested, please supply the records without informing me if the fees do not exceed $50.00.

As you know, the Act permits you to reduce or waive the fees "if disclosure of the information is in the public interest becauee it is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations or activities of the government and is not primarily in the comercial interest of the requester."

I believe that my request fits this category, and I therefore ask that you waive any fees.

I would appreciate your handling this request as quickly as possible, and I look forward to hearing from you within 10 working days , as the, law atipulates.

Sincerely, Bruce Maxwell'
