(San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 and 3)

Docket Nos. 50-361 OL & 50-362 OL

Dear Judge Wolfe:

This refers to your letter of September 11, 1987, requesting a status report on the Medical Services issues (10 C. F. R . 5 50.47(b)(12)) that are pending in the captioned matter.

In a one-page memorandum dated August 20, 1987, the Federal Emergency MarTagement Agency (FEMA) advised that the offsite medical services capabili-ties of the State of California and the local jurisdictions have been reviewed and with the exception of one item, all of the requirements have been satis- l fled . In a memorandum dated September 2, 1987, the NRC staff advised I FEMA that in order to properly resolve the Medical Services issues before an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board, it would be necessary to for FEMA to supplement its conclusions with a more specific evaluation of the Licensee's submittal against each of the review and acceptance criteria set forth in Guld-ance Memoranda MS-1.

FEMA has agreed to provide the requested evaluation aa<1 is presently sched-uled to complete its evaluation on or about October 1, 1987. Upon receipt of the FEMA evaluation, the Staff will advise the Licensing Board when its anal-ysis will be filed.

Sincerely, N
