JUN?6 WM South Carolina Electric and Gas Company ATTN: Mr. D. A. Nauman, Vice President Nuclear Operations P. O. Box 764 (167)
Columbia, SC 29218 Gentlemen:
SUBJECT:
DOCKET NO. 50-395 During the past four years, NRC has had a contract with the Boise Interagency Fire Center (BIFC) to establish / evaluate emergency communications.
These evaluations include plans for minimizing the time required for the deployment of NRC radio equipment and/or BIFC radio equipment as well as augmenting response personnel in the event of an emergency or during an exercise.
BIFC personnel have conducted site Radio Frequency Interference (RFI),
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and radio equipment placement surveys at your site.
These surveys provide guidance on the installation and use of radio communications during an emergency condition at a reactor site.
BIFC Survey findings and recommendations for your site are enclosed.
Region II requests your assistance in estimating the cost of implementing these recommendations.
Based on the cost estimates gathered, Region 11 may request licensee installation of these systems in the near future.
Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions regarding this matter or need additional information, please contact Mr. T. R. Decker of our staff at (404) 331-2559.
Sincerely, I I()IID bl % fl
