INSERVICE INSPECTION RELIEF REQUESTS NOS. I-00004 (REV. 2),1-00009 (REVISED), I-00010 (REV. 1) AND I-00014. I-00015 (Revised), I-00016, 1-00017, AND I-00018 - GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION (GGNS), UNIT 1 (TAC NOS. 65610,65984AND66631)

By letters dated June 12, August 14, October 26, and November 19, 1987, the System Energy Resources, Inc. (the licensee), requested relief from certain Section XI ASME Code requirements related to the first ten-year interval 1 Inservice Inspection Progran for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1. The i licensee met with the staff on October 15, 1987, in support of the requests.

The NRC staff, with technical assistance from its centractor, Idaho National j Engineering Laboratory, has evaluated the determinations made by the licensee l in support of the relief requests. The staff's Safety Evaluation is enclosed. '

The staff has concluded that the requested relief is appropriate. In reaching this conclusion, the staff has determined that the inspection and testing require-ments are impractical and, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6)(1), that the granting of the relief requested is authorized by law, will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, end is otherwise in the public interest.
