We are pleased to announce that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved the Agreement with the State of Ohio. Chairman Greta Dicus signed the Agreement on August 11, 1999, and Governor Bob Taft signed on August 18,1999. The effective date of the Agreement is August 31,1999.- Ohio becomes the 31 Agreement State.
We are notifying NRC licensees of the new Agreement, and request that you do likewise for your licensees. For your convenience, we have enclosed a copy of our notification letter.

SUBJECT:
AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF OHIO We are pleased to announce that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved an Agreement with the State of Ohio. Effective on August 31,1999, the Agreement transfers regulatory authority over certain radioactive materials to the State. The Agreement is authorized by Section 274t' of the Atomic Energy Act.
The Agreement, together with the Commission's regulations in 10 CFR Part 150, describes the full scope of the transferred authority. We have published tne Agreement in the Federal Reoister. and posted it at the NRC Intemet website (http://www.nrc. gov). To view the Agreement, click on the News and information icon, then select " Staff Papers" under the
" Commission" heading. The Agreement, with supporting documentation, is in the Commission paper numbered SECY-99179. The Part 150 regulations may also be viewed at the NRC website.
We have transferred most of the NRC licensees bas 6....no to the State. Federal Govemment agencies, and licenses that authorize special nuclear material in greater than formula quantities, will re;nain under NRC jurisdiction. Ohio will recognize the transferred NRC licenses as Ohio licenses until they expire, or until the State issues a new license. Please note this if you transfer materials to licensed users in Ohio. In addition, NRC licensees outside Ohio that use or plan to use radioactive material within the State should contact the State for information regarding the use of such material under reciprocity.
