RIVER BEND STATION, UNIT 1 - CORE SHROUD INSPECTION PLAN (TAC NO. M99230)

Dear Mr. McGahat By letter dated June 12, 1997, Entergy Operations Inc. (E01), submitted plans

for inspection, evaluation, nd repair of the core shroud at the River Bend Station, Unit 1. This letter fulfilled a reporting requirement to provide plans for inspection, evaluation, and/or repair of the shroud according to Generic Letter (GL) 94-93, "Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking of Core Shrouds in BWRs." In conformance with GL 94-93, this response has been submitted three months before inspection of the core shroud and contains the shroud welds to be inspected, the examination methods, and plans for evaluation and/or repair. The plan will be implemented during the next refueling outage scheduled to bogi.i in September 1997.

Entergy stated that its plans for insaection and evaluation satisfy the recommendations of the Boiling Water leactor Vessel and Internals Project's (BWRVIP's) "BWR Core Shroud Inspection and flaw Evaluation Guidelines" (BWRVIP-01), Rev. 2. -If repairs are needed. E01 plans to follow the recommendations in BWRVIP-02, " Core Shroud Repair Design Criteria," and BWRVIP-04, " Guide for format and Content of Core Shroud Repair Design Submittals." The staff finds these plans acceptable. They follow the guidance in BWR documents, the use of which the staff has approved, if there are any questions on this matter or the above, please let us know.
