Source Housing DESCRIPTION:
The Model SHRH-A Series source housings are basically similar in design, construction, and operation to the Ohmart Model SHRM source housing except that the shutter of the Model SHRH-A can-be locked in the closed position by a padlock through a stud on the shutter handle and a hinged stud bolted to the unit.
The source
. housings are 6.25 inches in diameter and are manufactured in
.various lengths.
The source housings may contain either point sources, Ohmart Models A-33131, A-2102, or A-2100 or Amersham Model AMN.PE1, or strip sources, Ohmart Models A-5771 or A-5772, depending on the overall length of the source housing and the purpose for which it is to be used.
In addition, source housings used by E.
I.
DuPont Company in Chattanooga, Tennessee, contain multiple A-2102 point sources.
The " active" length of sources will be shown in the model number of the source housing. Source housings containing a single. point source will have SHRH-A as the model number designation.
The source housing shutter is manually operated and the source housing may be used in special gauge configurations by mounting

LABELING:
The source housings'are labeled in accordance with Section 20.203, 10 CFR Part 20.
The labels contain the radiation symbol, isotope, activity, model number, serial number, name of the manufacturer, and the words " CAUTION-RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL".

Source Housing LABELING (cont'd):
The labels are made of stainless steel or-aluminum and are permanently attached by rivets or screws to the source housings.
EXTERNAL RADIATION LEVELS:
LThe Ohmart Corporation reports that the radiation levels around the-source housing will not exceed 5 mR/hr at 12 inches from the any accessible surface of the source housing.
CONDITIONS OF NORMAL USE:
The source-housings are intended for use in industrial and process control environments for measurement of density and/or level of materials.
All. persons are able to operate.the source housing under proper conditions with minimu'm radiation exposure.
PROTOTYPE TESTING:
The Model SHRH-A Series source housings have been in use since the early 1960's and there has been no reported incidents of failure related to radiological safety.
OUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
The Ohmart Corporation maintains a quality assurance and control program.which has been deemed acceptable for licensing purposes by NRC.
A copy of the program is on file with the NRC.
LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
The source housings may be distributed to specific or
. general licensees of NRC or an Agreement State.
-The.Ohmart Corporation offers a full-range of service to its customers including: start-up supervision, radiation surveys, leak tests, leak test. kits, off/on operational check, and disaster assistance.

These source housings shall be leak tested at intervals not to exceed 36 months using techniques capable of detecting 0.005 microcurie of removable contamination.
This registration sheet and the information contained.within the references shall not be changed without the written consent of the NRC.
When distributed to general licensees, the source housings may be mounted by the user provided the shutter is locked in the "OFF" position and they follow the Ohmart Corporation's safety instructions.
When distributed to specific licensees, the source housings may be mounted by the user provided the shutter is locked in the "OFF" position, they follow the ohmart corporation's safety instructions, and they are licensed to mount the source housing.
Source housings intended for use under a general license shall be initially tested for external radiation levels, required labels, and leakage / contamination of radioactive material by persons specifically licensed by NRC or an Agreement State.
When additional external shielding is added to the source housing, the labeling described in this registration certificate must still be visible to the user of the source housing at all times.
Handling, storage, use, transfer and disposal: To be determined by the licensing authority.

Source Housing SAFETY ANALYSIS
SUMMARY
Since the effective date of this document, the Model SHRH-A Series source housings are not current products manufactured by the Ohmart Corporation.
However, the source housings are handled in repairs, source replacements, and disposals.
The Ohmart Corporation has submitted sufficient information to provide reasonable assurance that:
The source housing can be safely operated by persons not having training in radiological protection.
Under ordinary conditions of handling, storage, and use of the source housing, the byproduct material contained in the source housing will not be released or inadvertently removed from the source housing, and it is unlikely that any person will receive in any period of one calendar quarter a dose in excess of 10 percent of the limits specified in the table in Section 20.101(a), 10 CFR 20.
Under accident conditions associated with handling, storage, and use of the source housing, it is unlikely that any person would receive an external radiation dose or dose commitment in excess of the dose to the appropriate organ as specified in the following chart:
