SENIOR OPERATOR LICENSE APPLICATION FOR SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING' STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3

We have reviewed the licensed senior application submitted by your letter dated August 26,1997. You should note that, while your letter requested consideration of the j
application as a license renewal under 10 CFR 55.57, we performed our review in i
accordance with the guidance of 10 CFR 55.33 and 55.47, as a new application requesting a waiver of examination. We took this action because the applicant's license had expired in 1995 and thus was not subject to renewal.
On the basis of our review of the application and the information you provided, we have determined that the applicant satisfies the requirements for license and that the criteria for waiver of examination detai!ed in 10 CFR 55.47 were satisfied. We also understand from a telephone conversation with your staff that you ensured that the individual had regained watch-standing proficiency prior to submitting the application. Therefore, we have waived the requirement for examination and have issued the applicant the appropriate license under separate correspondence, if you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact John Pellet at (8171860-8159.
