ROUTINE SAFETY INSPECTION AT THE ENRICO FERMI UNIT 1
(INSPECTION REPORT 50-016/98006(DNMS))
Dear Mr. Gipson:
During the period from March 24-26,1998, the NRC conducted an inspection of activities at
your Enrico Fermi Unit i facility, with an emphasis on decommissioning activities. Wipe
samples taken during the inspection were analyzed in the NRC Region lli laboratory on
April 14,1998. The enclosed report presents the results of the inspection and analyses.
Activities in the areas of facility management, decommissioning support, and radiological safety
were examined during the inspection.
Overal! performance in conduct of the limited decommissioning activities was good. All
activities inspected were conducted in compliance with the Decommission Plan and the
Technical Specifications. Dose rate measurements and wipe samples taken by the NRC
confirmed licensee results.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the
enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
