The NRC staf f has reviewed the structural eng'neering aspects of your November 27, 1990 submittal, " Design Report for the Station Blackout / Electrical Safeguards Upgrade Project." We find that additional information is required before we can complete our evaluation as detailed in the enclosure.
Please provide a response to these questions within 45 days to that we can maintain our review schedule.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON STATION BLACK 0UT/ ELECTRICAL SAFEGUARDS UPCRADE PROJECT TPAIRIE ISLAND UNITS 1 AND 2 STRUCTURAL AND GEOSCIENCES DRANCH 1.
Is the new D5/D6 building independent from its exist neighboring buildings?
Is its foundation isolated from the existing foundations?
Is the building structure connected in any way with the old structures? If so, what is mininium clearance between two buildings and why?
2.
Provide the design ground motion for the seismic design of the new 05/06 building. This includes horizontal and vertical response spectra for both OBE and SSE at the foundation level.
3.
Provide information in regards to the roof design relative to the drainage of rain water. Are there parapets or curbs built arouno the roof that would cau',e water ponding in case of probable maximum precipitation (PMp)? Has the problen of PHP as stated in NRC Generic Letter 8042 been considered? Are the roof slabs designed to support the weig h of the_ponded water?
