ULTRASONIC INDICATION OF POSSIBLE AN0MALY ON ONE JET PUMP RISER SAFE-END WELD Ultrasonic (UT) examination of one jet pump riser safe-end September 27 -
disclosed an indication of a possible anomaly. Subsequent radiographic ~ ,
examination did not correlate indications found by ultrasonic examination.
This weld is at the point where the jet pump riser penetrates the reactor m vessel. The examination was conducted as a result of cracks found in similar safe-ends at the Duane Arnold facility.' The licen:;ee has concluded !
a .as a result of analysis done to date that this indication.is not significant; I however review by both the licensee and NRC is continuing. Unit No. 1 startup on September 29, is planned. Earlier UT examinations of nozzle l safe-ends on Unit 2 revealed no significant indications and Unit 2 has ,
