By letter dated January 30,1998, Boston Edison Company (BECo) requested the Nuclear Regulatory Commssion (NRC) to review and approve BECo's engineering evaluation of an elevated tailpipe temperature on safety relief valve SRV 203-38. NRC approval of the evaluation l
Is required by Technical Specification 3.6.D.4 for continued power operation beyond 90 days from the initial discovery of discharge pipe temperatures in excess of 212*F for more than 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />.
l We have completed our review of BECo's engineering evaluation for elevated tailpipe temperature and have found it to be acceptable. In addition, BECo has implemented standing L
order 97-06 to increase SRV tailpipe temperature measurement to once per hour and begin an L
orderly shutdown of the reactor when the tailpipe temperature exceeds 235'F for a period greater than 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> or exceeds 250*F at any time. Our safety evaluation approving continued plant operation is enclosed. This completes our action on this request and closes TAC No. MA0881.
